The Journey Begins

A couple days shy of a month out and I got the blog up and running. In a few short weeks, I will be heading off on my next great adventure- serving as a Volunteer in the Peace Corps. I’m heading off to Lesotho, a mountain kingdom in Southern Africa, where I will teach math and life skills to young teenagers. Of course, I expect that I will learn far more than I teach- everything from a new language, new cultural norms, and new appreciation of humankind. But for now I sit and I type and I pack, content to spend as much time with family and friends as possible. If all goes well, it’ll be more than two years before I’m back in the States, so I better enjoy while I can.

Someone asked me, “Are you ready?”, I quickly replied “No!”. It’s not because I’m not excited, or I think I’m unprepared to handle what’s coming, but I think this is the sort of adventure you’re never quite ready for. No matter how prepared you think you are, there will always be curveballs and problems you could never have predicted. But that’s what makes it an adventure. And I know without a doubt, that I am ready to give my all.

So from one one mountain range to another I go. Let the count down begin!

Coming together is a beginning. Staying together is progress. Working together is success.  — Henry Ford
