Reflection

First step- go find the song Reflection from the movie Mulan and play it. It’s a great song.

Second step- think back about the last twelve months. Think about highs and think about lows. Think about random stuff that falls in the middle. Think about new friends, old friends, lost friends, found friends. Think about family, whether you like them or not, and think about the family you make, not just the family you have. Think about places you’ve been. Think about the food you’ve eaten, the drinks you’ve had, the stuff you cooked, the stuff you burned. Try to remember the best meal you ate, the prettiest view, the most bittersweet goodbye… just think about it.

Third step- imagine what you want for next year or for the next five or for the next fifty. Where do you want to go? What do you want to see? What do you want to do? What kind of person do you want to be? What kind of person do you want to enter your life? Is there anyone you think you should remove from your life? What are some goals, big or small? Is there something you could do to improve your life? What about something nice you could do for a friend? Is there a friend you’ve lost touch with? Do you want to reconnect? How about a book you want to read? A movie you want to watch?

As I sit and reflect upon my last year and think about my goals for the future, I realize that’s it’s not just about big broad strokes but also about all the little stuff, the details that make up life. If you’ve been reading my blog, you know about a lot of what happened for me in the last year and I don’t feel like rehashing it right now. So instead all I have to say is that I had a good year. I made friends. I went new places. I accomplished goals. I also had failures. I made mistakes. I learned from them, I hope.

I have plans for the next year and some of those plans involve not planning for anything.

I hope you all had good years. If you didn’t, I hope things get better.

Think about the small things. Think about the big things. Remember to breathe when it all gets too much.

Cheers to 2019. Bring it on 2020. New decade, new year- the world spins on. Happy New Year!!!
